Bố Rodney là người rửa bát đĩa trong một quán ăn, anh cũng là người phục vụ. Cho đến một ngày anh quyết định đến thành phố robot để thực hiện 2 ước mơ là trở thành nhà phát minh vĩ đại và gặp thần tượng Bigweld nhà phát minh lớn và là chủ của tập đoàn Bigweld Industries chuyên sản xuất phụ tùng thay thế cho cả thế giới robot. Trong hành trình, Rodney đã làm quen được nhiều người bạn tốt như Fender, Piper và Cappy. Nhờ sự giúp đỡ của những người bạn này, Rodney đã phá tan âm mưu tiêu hủy tất cả robot lỗi thời của hai mẹ con Ratchet gian ác. Anh trở thành ân nhân của thế giới robot, nơi đang khủng hoảng vì việc máy quét rác đi khắp thành phố, hút các robot cũ.
